In this project I will be researching and presenting how hunting began, how it advanced to where it is today, and where we expect it to go.
Past
Hunting began basically as the basic way to survive, as it takes less time than agriculture. Basic hunting weapons included the spear and slingshot, or traps and snares. One invention that was a huge advance was the atlatl, or or spear thrower. It was basic, but effective, improvement on the spear. It was a long piece of wood with a hook on the end, to hold the spear, and a weight on the end to add power it looked like a horizontal ‘v’ when the spear was in it. Other advances included the bow and arrow, and eventually the rifle.
Most hunting techniques that were used in the past are still in use today. These involved sitting motionlessly and quietly in wait, spot and stalk, and basically just walking around. Some variants include pushing bush, where one or more people walk in the direction of another party, their objective is to spook animals from feeding and sleeping areas into the path or sight of the hunters. Another popular method was, and is, tracking animals using their prints either in snow or mud so you can tell if a track is fresh.
Present
Today the weapons that are mainly used are the rifle, bow and crossbow.
There are two types of rifle, rimfire and centerfire. Rimfire being for small game such as rabbits and grouse and ptarmigan. Centerfire is for all big game, such as deer and moose, and also for predators such as a coyote and a wolf. The bow has also evolved, into the compound bow that is made of carbon and is extremely lightweight and fires arrows at speeds of up to 370 feet per second. The same hunting tactics are in place, stalking and ambushing still being the most popular and most successful with the invention of calls that imitate animals. The hunting world is strictly regulated, with various laws of quantity, size and method. All big game animals require tags in your licence booklet. You are able to begin hunting at age 10 in BC after taking the course and mailing in the results.
Future
I believe that hunting will eventually die off, or, as is evident by events recently, be outlawed or simply become illegal because of animal rights activists. Many hunters don’t help our case because there is no end to poaching, and when faced with the punishment, the will end up wasting an animal to protect themselves. It is extremely selfish because if you just come clean and man p to your mistake, you will have a severely smaller punishment, or none at all. I definitely hope that it continues, as it is an integral part of many people’s lives and also of mine. I am not sure how it will continue but i cannot imagine the tactics changing. But i can predict that weapons will keep getting bigger and better and deadlier.

Horror Story
My son Bruce came home late from school one day at 9:00 pm. He had told me he would be coming home straight from school and he would call me as he was planning to stay at his friend Jim’s house that night. My many attempts to reach him via phone were futile as he would not answer. When he did get home, I was furious. I asked him to explain where he had been while he ignored me while trudging up the stairs to his room. His head did a 180 and looked at me and he spoke to me as he climbed the stairs: “You will soon learn not to question my life” in a very deep voice. I quickly grabbed my coat and rushed out the door to find my ex-wife at work. When I arrived at her office on the far side of town I was shocked to find that nobody was there but there was blood covering the walls of her cubicle and that the only item untouched was the photograph of her and Bruce together when he was five. I decided to go to my friend Shane’s house to ask him to help me figure out what had happened to my wife and what was going on with my son, but when I arrived the door had been broken down and as I searched the house I discovered that the master bedroom was covered in blood and the only item untouched was a photo album and when I opened it all photos had been removed except for one. That photo was of my wedding with Bruce in the front row and Shane as my best man. I decided to return home and confront my son but when I entered the residence I was shocked to find Shane, my ex-wife and my son eating dinner. I slowly crept into the kitchen but when I did, I found them eating my wife’s colleagues. I quick ran to stop them but when I reached out to grab my wife, I woke up.
These are my two favorite pieces of writing because the ideas just came to me for both of them and were very easy to keep writing and I didn't hit any road blocks when it came to ideas.
